• New materials and SEF breakfast

Posted by Kay Barriger on 8/28/2018

Through a grant from the Salina Education Foundation, Oakdale Library has received some new makerspace equipment. We will begin learning how to code and program the Spheros and the WeDo Legos right after the Labor Day weekend. I'm so excited to see what the Oakdale students can invent this year!

February 18th is the Salina Education Foundation breakfast. We will be presenting about our makerspace activities and we will demonstrate how they work and showcase some of our creations. We're even taking the roller coaster to the breakfast for all to see. I hope we can finish it before the 18th!

Hello everyone! It's beginning to look a lot like a new school year. I'm busy getting the library set up and ready to go for students. The materials for the new Makerspace activities have been ordered and I can't wait to begin using our chromebooks to program. It's going to be an exciting year!

tech Hi everyone! I can't believe that the school year is coming to an end soon.

May 3rd is the last day for STREAM Club. If you are in 3rd or 4th grade and were in STREAM Club this year, you are welcome to come to the club next year. If you were not in STREAM Club this year and would like to join for next year, please come talk to me. We have received another grant from the Salina Education Foundation so there will be some new equipment added next fall. We will have Spheros, Robotic Legos, and more Cubelets. I'm looking forward to planning projects with you and helping you learn more about programming and robotics.

  • Update on the Stream Club

Posted by Kay Barriger on 12/19/2017

There are currently 15 members of the Oakdale Stream Club that participate in the Makerspace activities on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. It is a time to talk with others and explore new ideas. Many of the students choose a different activity each time that they come to the club. Some do origami while others are using the computers to explore coding. I enjoy seeing the looks on their faces when they achieve success.

I hope everyone has a relaxing and fun break. Please make sure to read and, if you have a chance, create something new. All of the Oakdale Makerspace activities will be here when you return. Merry Christmas! See you next year!
