  • (1/22/2019) The Board named Linn Exline, executive director of school improvement (teaching and learning) as the new interim superintendent. Following the interview phase of the recent superintendent search, board members were pleased with the pool of candidates but did not find a fit. They decided that the best fit is available within the district, Linn Exline. She will begin as interim superintendent on July 1, succeeding Dr. James Hardy who led the district since 2017.

    (1/11/2019) The USD 305 Board of Education has chosen four finalists to interview on four separate days January 14-17, 2019. Candidates’ names will be released sequentially; the name of each candidate will be made public on the morning of the candidate’s interview day. Public receptions will take place from 3:45-5:00 p.m. at the District Office SEC Room, 1511 Gypsum Ave., on the following days

    • Monday, January 14
    • Tuesday, January 15
    • Wednesday, January 16
    • Thursday, January 17

    (1/7/2019) The application window has closed for superintendent applicants. After a team chaired by the Kansas Assocation of School Boards screens the applications, an applicant pool will be presented to board members at a special meeting on January 10

    • Three to five candidates will be invited to interview during the week of January 14-18
      • Candidates' names will be released sequentially; the name of each candidate will be made public on the morning of the candidate's interview day
    • Each candidate's designated day will include
      • Interviews throughout the day
      • A public reception scheduled from 3:45-5PM in the District Office SEC Room (everyone welcome!)

    (10/29/2018) Results of the community meetings and online survey, identifying characteristics needed by the next superintendent, were reviewed by board members at a meeting October 29. Input was gathered from an online survey (371 participants), 10 focus groups and one community group meeting (120 participants).     (10/17/2018) The USD 305 Board of Education met at a special meeting on October 15 and worked on a timeline and next steps for the superintendent search. It is important to the board that everyone in the community have an opportunity to give input about important characteristics needed for the new superintendent to be successful at USD 305. Opportunities for input include:

    • Community meeting, October 29, 5:15 p.m. at Smoky Hill Education Service Center, 605 E. Crawford. Everyone is welcome.
    • Online survey was available between October 17-25. 
    • Additionally, the board will receive input from separate focus groups to include USD 305 employees and faculty, community business members and more. Link to Focus Groups

    (10/10/2018) At their October 9, 2018 regular meeting, the Salina USD 305 Board of Education set a special meeting at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 15 to review the superintendent search timeline and review Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the process.


    (9/27/2018) At their regular meeting on September 25, 2018, the Salina USD 305 Board of Education approved Kansas Association of School Boards (KASB) to assist with the district's superintendent search. 

    As explained by KASB during their presentation to the board on September 11, the process will involve community input and a timeline that will begin in October with the identification of desired characteristics of the next superintendent.

    Dr. James Hardy has served as interim superintendent since July 2017. He will continue to lead the district for the 2018-2019 school year while the board conducts a search for a long-term superintendent. While appreciative of the opportunity to lead USD 305, at the end of this school year Dr. Hardy is looking forward to spending more time with his family.
