• Darren Brooks, M.M.E., Kansas State Univerisity, B.M.E., Kansas State University.  Mr. Brooks is in his fourth year as Director of Bands at Salina South High School, and has taught for 8 years for USD 305.     Prior to his time at South High, he was a graduate assistant for the Kansas State University Band program for two years, and was the Director of Bands for the Twin Valley School District (Bennington and Tescott) for five years. 

    His duties at Salina South Schools include directing the Salina South High School Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Band and conducting the Wind Ensemble.    He also  helps teach at Salina South Middle Schol and  teaches 5th grade band at Sunset, stewart and Coronado Elementary Schools. Mr. Brooks also serves on the NEA of Salina Negotiations Team, and is the President Elect of the North Central District of the Kansas Music Educators Association.  

     

    He is a member of the Heart of America Concert band, and the Salina Municipal Band.  

    He holds professional affiliations with the National Association for Music Education, the Kansas Music Educators' Association, The Kansas Bandmasters Association, The National Educators’ Association, The International Trumpet Guild, Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia National Music Fraternity.  In the Summer of 2010 Mr. Brooks was awarded the Outstanding Young Band Director of the Year Award by the Kansas Bandmasters Association.
