Degrees and Certifications:
For 30 years I was a one-person department, for another seven years I was half of a two-person middle school department. I worked at Roosevelt-Lincoln Middle School (formerly, Roosevelt-Lincoln Junior High School) from 1978 until its closing in 2002. Throughout the 1980's while at R-L I taught Spanish and Russian at St. John's Military School and sponsored their international student group. I also taught at South Middle School for four years in the 1990's. I taught at Lakewood Middle from it's opening in 2002 and a couple of years ago while there I also taught Spanish 1 through 3 at Salina West.
In all those years I taught many people how to approach learning a language in a classroom environment and we worked with Hebrew, Russian, Spanish, American Sign Language, French, German, and sometimes with Hawaiian, Swahili and Swedish -- new adventures all over the place! At the end of the 2015-2016 school year our school district eliminated world language learning from the middle schools and transferred me to Central High. Now I'm in a three-person (two languages) department where I teach somewhat older learners again, but I use mostly one level of one language all day every day, so for adventure I look to the learners. May we all enjoy our shared learning experiences!
