    Dual Credit Opportunities for Sophomores and Juniors - Salina Area Technical College

    Salina Area Technical College has articulation agreements in place with several area high schools.  This enables students to earn college credit while still in high school.  Contact Student Services for more information.  For more information, visit Salina Tech's website.  To apply for admission to Salina Tech, go to their Application page.  

           

    EXCITE (Exploring Science, Technology & Engineering) Shadow Days - K-State-Manhattan

    High school students are invited to come experience a day in the life of a K-State student! Each participant will be paired with a current K-State student who shares similar interests in science, technology, engineering, and/or math. Together they will attend class, tour campus, share lunch, and discuss what it's like to be in a STEM major at K-State.  The mission of EXCITE Shadow Days is to increase girls' interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers.  Shadow days are from 9am-3:30.  Visit their website to register.  Fall Events - October 17 and November 14

     

    Great Plains Manufacturing - Careers in Manufacturing Event

    Great Plains Careers in Manufacturing event October 17,2018 for high school 10th, 11th, 12th grade students. Participate in manufacturing tours and understand the many career options manufacturing has to offer. Tech colleges will be on-site as well as a weld simulator machine, product videos, etc. Registration deadline: October 9. Contact the School to Career office for more information.

     

    Fall Fix-Up - Saturday, October 20, 2018 - 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Calling for volunteers!

    Meet at Friends of the River Foundation office. Free Continental Breakfast, Corner of Walnut and 4th Street.  The projects include: clean-up of sculptures, clean-up on the YMCA trails and Smoky Hill River Channel, planting trees in North Town District, clean-up and painting in Salina Downtown, planting tulips at the Salina Innovation Center located in the Masonic Temple, demolition before the remodel in a house for Ashby House and painting at the Martin Luther King Jr. Child Dev.     High School Field Day for Fire Science Event - Hutchinson Community College

    Hutchinson Community College is having their 20th annual High School Field Day Event on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 (9am-4pm) at their Hutchinson Fire Science Campus and would like to invite Junior and Senior high school students that may be interested in becoming a firefighter.     Diversity Leadership Symposium - Wichita State University

    The Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Wichita State University will host the Diversity Leadership Symposium on Thursday, October 25 from 9:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.  Wichita State University welcomes sophomores, juniors, and seniors from diverse backgrounds to a day full of fun where they will have the opportunity to get a glimpse into the life of a Shocker. Learn about our leadership opportunities academic resources and hear from current WSU students. Information on campus life and student organizations will also be provided. This program is the ideal time for students from all backgrounds to break out of their normal routines and visit campus to learn more about WSU’s academic and social resources. FREE to attend!  All students in attendance will receive a WSU t-shirt and a free lunch.     2018 State Masonic Public School Essay Contest

    The 2018 State Masonic Public School Essay Contest has been in existence for 60-years and has awarded more than $300,000 statewide to deserving high school students. Annually $12,000 is awarded with $4,000 given for the best essay. All High Schools Juniors and Seniors across the State are eligible to participate. Essays are limited to a minimum of 300 and a maximum of 500 words and must be submitted to a Local Lodge on or before November 1, 2018.     Nursing Program Visit Day (Juniors & Seniors) - Salina KU School of Medicine Campus

    Juniors and Seniors interested in nursing and learning about the BS program in nursing from KU are invited to the Salina KU School of Medicine Campus located at 138 N. Santa Fe on November 2, 2018.  Beginning at 3:30 PM, students will have the opportunity to discuss the admissions process with time for questions of faculty and current students as well as a tour of the classrooms and labs.     Camp GROW (Girls Revolutionizing Our World) - K-State Polytechnic

    K-State Polytechnic's upcoming Camp GROW (Girls Revolutionizing Our World) open to female high school students grades 9-12. Thursday, November 8; 8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Student Life Center @ K-State Polytechnic; No cost.  Lunch is provided and students will also receive camp t-shirts. Activities are based on the six core values of social work: Human relationships, integrity, competency, dignity/worth of the person, social justice, and service.     ASVAB Testing - Salina Area Technical College

    Salina Tech now offers the opportunity for students to take the Armed Services Vocation Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) every month! The ASVAB is a great way for students to assess their own skills and abilities, and to learn about potential careers that fit with those abilities that they might not have considered previously. Any students may take the ASVAB, and it is not required to share the results with the military.  It will be on our campus – 2562 Centennial Road – in the downstairs computer lab in Building A.  It is first-come, first-serve. 

       

    JFK Profile in Courage Essay Contest

    The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation invites U.S. high school students to describe and analyze an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1917, the year John F. Kennedy was born.  The contest is open to United States high school students in grades nine through twelve attending public, private, parochial, or home schools; US students under the age of twenty enrolled in a high school correspondence/GED program; and US citizens attending schools overseas. The first-place winner receives $10,000. Second-place receives $3,000. Five finalists receive $1,000 each. Eight semifinalists receive $100 each. Ten students receive honorable mention.  The Profile in Courage Essay Contest opens for submissions on September 1, 2018.
