I remember the first time we went to one of Vito's parties. It was unlike any party I had ever attended. First of all, it was at night. My parties were always in the afternoon. When we arrived, we saw a huge tent in the yard covered with twinkling lights. I usually had my parties inside. The food was also a surprise. Instead of the cake, ice cream, and punch that I was used to, they had meatballs, spaghetti, and garlic bread. And what a crowd they had--more than 100 people! My parents never let me invite more than ten people to my parties. Boy did we have a great time! I went home hoping to be invited to Vito's next party.

Dear Diary, I had a great time today washing cars! It was to raise money for my class' field trip. First, I put on some old clothes that Mom said I could get wet and dirty. Then I reported to the parking lot wher ethe car wash was being held. I filled up my buckets with soap and warm water. As each car drove up, I washed it with soapy water and a large sponge. Next, I hosed off the soapy water. Then I applied some wax with a soft towel. Afterward, I polished the car with another soft and clean towel. Pretty soon that car looked like new! It was really fun! At the end of the day, I gave Mrs. Miller all the money that I had collected for our field trip.

Trains can carry heavier cargo than airplanes. One locomotive engine can pull many cars full of freight. Planes, on the other hand, can carry only one cargo load of freight at a time. Planes travel faster than trains, though, which can mean that the cargo gets to its destination much faster than it would by train. Some early trains carried large sums of money. Companies would send payrolls and other cash payments by rail. As a result, the trains were often the targets of robbery.

Since I had not been scuba diving for several years, I spent the week rereading my safety manual. I studied the rules carefully to help me remember how to use the breathing equipment and the weight belt. I read about how long it is safe to stay in the deep water. As a result, I felt a lot more confident.
