Elizabeth Burke, Library Media Specialist   Burke

    Library Media Center

"The friendly face of knowledge acquisition"

I am proud to be a Cougar and serve the students and staff of South High.  I joined the staff in 2007, and I taught social studies for ten years.  I obtained my library media specialist endorsement from Fort Hays State, a Masters from Rockhurst University, and an undergraduate degree from Baker University.  Although, I have an affinity for the Kansas Jayhawks (Rock Chalk)--especially during basketball season.

My husband and I have two boys who keep me busy outside of school, and I love reading my boys classic children’s stories and finding new books to read to them.  One of their favorite places to visit continues to be our wonderful public library.

My favorite pastimes are reading, baking, traveling, and spending time with family.  I'm currently reading, Pride by:  Ibi Zoboi.

Ione Gargis , Instructional Assistant        Gargis

    Library Media Center

This is my 23rd year working in the library at South High, starting in 1996. The first two years at South High I worked in the Library Computer Lab. When the two Library assistants retired, I moved into the library position I am currently in. I graduated from Brown Mackie College in December, l980. I also received two business/computer certificates from K-State, Salina, and took a variety of other classes there. I have been married for 20 years to my first husband, Richard. We have four  grandchildren, one of whom is in the Air Force and one got married in August, 2016!  I enjoy spending time with family & friends, movies, reading, scrapbooking and summers off!
