Welcome to the Oakdale Library!
Library Media Specialist: Mrs. Kay Barriger
This will be my 28th year as an educator and my 9th year as a library media specialist at Oakdale. I enjoy sharing my knowledge of books and research skills with the students as well as educating them about technology in our society.
My husband and I have 2 grown boys with families of their own. We love spending time with our four grandchildren and our dogs, Boomer and Thunder. In our spare time, we enjoy hiking, camping, and working on our home. Of course, I also do a lot of READING!
This is the 2nd year that I have received a Salina Education Foundation grant for Makerspaces in the library. This encourages students to create, explore, and build with various materials. The students will read books and participate in activities where they learn about the principles of engineering, robotics, and computer programming. So if your child comes home talking about playing with Legos in the library, you'll know Makerspaces are being utilized.
Last year the Makerspaces were so popular that I started a club for 3rd-5th graders that meets before school on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. STREAM Club will continue this year. I will also be sponsoring a team of students for The FIRST LEGO League which is a robotics competition. If your student is interested in either of these activities, please contact me for information.
I look forward to helping your children learn about authors, books, and technology. If you have questions about the library policies or procedures, feel free to contact me.
