Valentine’s Day Deliveries for 2010
District USD #305 Policy

(flowers, balloons, candy, cookie bouquets, etc.) …

As you are probably aware, in October 1999, USD #305 administration, students, and Salina florists met and discussed concerns regarding
Valentine’s Day deliveries in the Salina Public Schools.  Among those concerns were:

·         -  florists not being able to deliver within the allotted time parameter,

·        -   deliveries cause a major disruption during academic instruction,

·         -  the amount of school personnel it takes to facilitate deliveries, and

·         -  the social discrepancy between students who receive flowers and those who do not.

At that time, a compromise was reached and a new procedure was put in place during the 1999-2000 school year.
            That procedure has not changed
The decision was as follows:

·        -  Elementary—no Valentine’s Day deliveries

·        -  Secondary—individual school organizations (i.e., StuCo, foreign language club, band organization, etc.) may, with building
administrative approval, have a fundraiser selling individual roses/carnations to students as per building procedure.  Any flowers will be
purchased from local florists.   No outside deliveries will be allowed.  This will be a building level decision

While we appreciate the service the floral industry provides our community, the  logistics of trying to handle the large volume of
deliveries has been tremendous and we feel we can no longer support this process.  We appreciate your help and thank you for your
        compliance with this procedure.
