2017-2018 Renaissance Students of the Week
   
 Week 4  
Rose John Rose is a sixth grade student at Lakewood Middle School where he has a 3.8 GPA. John participates in school activities at Lakewood Middle by being a member of the orchestra. Outside of school, he participates in the Salina Youth Symphony. His favorite subject at Lakewood Middle is orchestra because it is a full class. After graduating from high school, John plans on attending either Mid America or K-State. In his spare time, John loves science and reading books.

Gibson

Cheyanne Gibson is a sophomore at Salina Central High School. She participates in school activities by being a link leader at Central High. Outside of school, she participates in the S.R.L. All Dog Breed Rescue. Cheyanne says the best part about school is that all of her teachers are amazing. In her spare time, she likes listening to country music.

Fair

 

Tiara Fair is a sixth grade student at South Middle School. Outside of school, Tiara twirls on Shannon's Stars, a national twirling team. She says she tries to be a good role model and mentor to the younger girls. Tiara says the best part about attending South Middle is band class. She says it starts her day. After graduating from high school, she plans to twirl for K-State and study to become a pediatrician.

Renz

Parker Renz is a senior at Salina South High School where he has a 3.5 GPA. He participates in school activities by being part of the golf team, stat tracking for the basketball team and being a participant in the Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge. Parker has qualified for state in golf three times and was selected as a Second Team All-State. Outside of school, Parker has continued his success in golf by qualifying for the Kansas Amateur Golf Championship, participating in the First Tee, coaching for the First Tee and this fall Parker will play in the Pure Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach. Parker also has participated in Relay for Life. Parker says he enjoys his supportive teachers at South High like Mr. Harris, Mr. Stuart and Mr. Carlson. After graduating from high school, he plans to attend college to continue his golf career but is undecided on where he would like to go. Parker has one brother, Lucas, and two dogs.

Week 3  

Griffith

Conner Griffith is an eighth grade student at Lakewood Middle School. Conner does not participate in any school sports due to his weight lifting he does 4 days a week. Outside of school, he volunteers for Salina United Way and belongs to First Presbyterian Church and their youth group called God Squad. Conner says he likes his technical education class with Brian Nowak because he gets to create his own creations. He says his wooden tool box won 3rd place at competition. After graduating from high school, Conner would like to be an engineer and attend college where they have a good weight lifting program. Conner is a team member of Salina Reps and Sets Weightlifting Club, has won 5 first place finishes for age and weight and won the Missouri Valley Championship by placing first and getting best lifter. He is also assistant youth coach for the club. Conner has an older brother, Zach; and older sister, Maysem. He also has 3 cats, Mazie, Jinx and Lance.

Coulter

Elijah Coulter is a seventh grade student at South Middle School. He participates in school activities by being a member of the cross country team and FCA. Outside of school, he participates in his church youth group. Elijah says his favorite class at South Middle is P.E. because he is athletic. After graduating from high school, he plans to attend college and play baseball in college. In his spare time, he likes to play the Rubic's cube and says he can solve the cube. Elijah has three dogs.

Thompson

Seth Thompson is a senior at Salina South High School where he has a 4.14 GPA. He participates in school activities by being the swimming team's co-captain and being a mathlete. Seth is also a Relay for Life committee member and is the Stuco Vice-President. Seth enjoys school because of the great atmosphere that the teachers provide at South High. Seth says his favorite subject is calculus. After graduating from high school, he plans to attend Washburn University and pursue an accounting degree. In his spare time, Seth plays the guitar, piano and trumpet. He has also traveled to 26 different states.

Hamm

 

Kaytlyne Hamm is a sixth grade student at Lakewood Middle School. She participates in school activities by participating in band and music at Lakewood Middle. Outside of school, she plays softball for Fusion and serves at her church. Kaytlyne says one of her favorite teachers is Mr. Boggs because he is very straight forward and kind. After graduating from high school, Kaytlyne plans on attending KU School of Nursing.

Weber

Ethan Brown is a junior at Salina Central High School. He participates in school activities by being a member of the student council for three years and vice-president of his class the past two years. He is also a thespian, enjoys being in choir and likes to emcee pep rallies at Central High. Outside of school, Ethan is the Youth on Board member of the Accessibility Advisory Board for the City of Salina, is on the leadership team for his church youth group and he volunteers for his church's Vacation Bible School. He is also studying Spanish and has gone on two mission trips to Central and South America. Ethan says he really likes the teachers and students at Central High and he also has great classes. He appreciates the rich tradition that can be found at Central. Ethan says he has the best service dog ever. This is the 6th year she has attended school with him.

Luis E. Moreno is an eighth grade student at South Middle School. He participates in school activities by being on the wrestling team and participating in art and technical education. Outside of school, he is a member of the Church of the Nazarene and the Boxing Club. Luis says his favorite staff member is his paraeducator, Mr. Mark, and his favorite class is Mrs. Lee's art class. He says he is also good at math and science. After graduating from high school, Luis would like to be an art teacher. In his spare time, he likes to run and participate in boxing and wrestling. He says he enjoys drawing, too. Luis has one dog.

Bailey Weber is a junior at Salina South High School. She participates in school activities by being a member of the softball and basketball team. Outside of school, she participates in the Catholic Youth Organization, also known as CYO. Bailey says her favorite part about school is seeing her friends and she especially enjoys her favorite class, AP US History, because of her love for history and her teacher, Mr. Harris, whom she says is humorous. After graduating from high school, Bailey will be attending college but is undecided where at this time. She would like to pursue a degree in child psychiatry.

Wood

 

Kira Wood is a seventh grade student at Lakewood Middle School. She participates in school activities by participating in the band where she plays the flute, cross country and is a peer mediator. Outside of school, Kira is active in her church youth group. She says she really likes the teachers at Lakewood and they each have a unique way of teaching. She also enjoys participating in band and cross-country competitions. After graduating from high school, Kira plans to attend Brigham Young University-Idaho and study to become an elementary education teacher. In her spare time, she likes running, playing basketball, reading, playing the flute and  babysitting. Kira is the oldest of 4 sisters.
Daughter of Christopher and Nashelle Wood

Thomas Jere' Thomas is a senior at Salina Central High School. He particpates in school activities by participating on the football and track team. He is also the link leader where he welcomes the freshmen to Salina Central. Outside of school, Jere' led a group of teens on a mission trip to Mexico to build a house for a family in need. Jere' says he likes the teachers at Salina Central. He says they have all been great and pushed him to do more in life and he wants to be a positive impact in the world. In his spare time, Jere' likes playing sports and hanging with the guys! He would like to give a shoutout to Coach Mike Hall for being a positive role model in his life.

Aranda Adrian Aranda is an eighth grade student at South Middle School. He participates in school activities by being the StuCo class president for three years and a member of the orchestra. Outside of school, he participates in the Salina Symphony and Sacred Heart Choirs. Adrian says the best part about South Middle is all the electives they can choose from, especially advanced guitar where he says Mr. Gerry makes it very fun and competitive. After graduating from high school, he plans to have his basic classes done and start on his career. He either wants to major in music or become a surgeon. Adrian says he is the youngest in his family. He has three sisters, one brother and a dog.

Hernandez Angelica Carrillo Hernandez is a senior at Salina South High School. She participates in school activities by being a Link Leader and also studies CNA at Central High. Angelica says she loves school and English is her favorite subject and Mrs. Hurley is her favorite teacher because she taught her English. After graduation, Angelica plans to pursue a post-secondary CNA certificate along with attending college to receive a Psychology degree. In her spare time, Angelica will volunteer at her brother's school, Coronado, to help with activities. She also enjoys watching football games and is proud to be an ESL student.
