Welcome to the Salina
South Middle School Mineral Classification Web Site. This web site integrates
technology with the study of minerals. 30 different minerals can be identified by
observing the properties of mineral samples and making the choices presented by our web
pages. Click on the classify button to start a classifying mineral. You can
learn about some of the properties used to identify minerals by clicking on the properties
button. The following minerals can be classified from this site: talc, gypsum, calcite, fluorite, apatite, microcline, topaz, corundum, actinolite, albite, andradite, augite, biotite, chlorite, dolomite, hornblende, muscovite, olivine, quartz, serpentine, bauxite, chalcopyrite, galena, graphite, halite, hematite, limonite, magnetite, malachite, pyrite, and sulfur. About 95 percent of the pages in this site were completed by seventh graders at South Middle School. Click on students to view their names. This project was facilitated by three teachers.
