Superintendent’s Report

Linn Exline, superintendent of schools, reported on special education funding, stating that there was an error in Medicaid reimbursements over a span of seven years, with an impact of nearly $580,000 to CKCIE. CKCIE reached out to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) about repayment. CKCIE must repay the amount over the next calendar year. She noted that this error was not made on the part of SPS or CKCIE; rather, it is a statewide issue. Superintendent Exline, Shanna Rector, deputy superintendent, and Kelly Mobray, director of the Salina Adult Education Center, met with the Kansas Board of Regents. The Kansas Board of Regents celebrated the quality of adult education programming offered in Salina and expressed a desire to see the program expand into Dickinson County. She recognized how positive the working partnership has been with the Kansas Board of Regents and expressed her pride in receiving affirmations about the program from the Board. Superintendent Exline also shared that summer school is currently in session, with 498 elementary students attending at Heusner and Schilling, and 453 secondary students attending at CHS. She noted that secondary summer school focuses on enrichment, credit recovery, Career and Technical Education (CTE), driver’s education, and ACT prep. She thanked all staff involved in supporting summer school and SPS students.
