Salina Arts & Humanities

Anna Pauscher, Salina Arts & Humanities, gave an update about the Arts Infusion Program.

 

Renaissance Teachers

(Due to COVID, Renaissance Teachers of the Month for November and December were announced and recognized virtually). Certificates will be mailed to them and they will be recognized on Facebook.

The board of education approved the 2020-2021 calendar adjustments.

 

Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA): Employer Paid Leave

The board of education approved the extension of FFCRA leave hours through June 30, 2021.

 

Kansas Education Systems Accreditation (KESA) Update

Shanna Rector, executive director of educational programs, and Heidi Paquin, director of staff development and accreditation, gave a review of USD 305’s progress in the KESA accreditation cycle.

 

Virtual Program

Shanna Rector, executive director of educational programs, provided an update on virtual program needs and the next steps for making decisions for the 2021-2022 school year.

 

Athletic Advertising Proposal

Linn Exline, superintendent of schools, Greg Maring and Ken Stonebraker presented a proposal from the USD 305 athletic board to expand advertising opportunities at Salina Stadium, the natatorium (South High), the softball fields and the high school gyms.

 

School Board Reports

  • Mark Bandré, board member, attended the Smoky Hill Education Service Center Executive Cabinet Meeting on Zoom and delivered a Board appreciation lunch to Heusner Elementary.
  • Ann Zimmerman, board member, delivered a Board appreciation lunch to Schilling Elementary, listened to Superintendent Exline on KINA, is scheduled to work with students for Kansas Day through the Arts Infusion Program via Zoom, participated in the Kansas Association of School Boards (KASB) Lunch and Learn with health professionals on Zoom, and the KASB legislative update.
  • Dana Kossow, board member, delivered a Board appreciation lunch to Meadowlark Ridge Elementary.
  • Scott Gardner, board member, attended a Head Start Policy Council meeting on Zoom.
  • Emma Doherty, board member, attended a District Health Council meeting on Zoom and delivered an appreciation lunch to Stewart Elementary School.

Superintendent’s Report

Linn Exline, superintendent of schools, met with Senator Jerry Moran and other local public entities leaders at the former Schilling Air Force Base for informal conversation about the project. On January 7, Superintendent Exline visited Larrah Bills’ Heusner Elementary classroom when, through a surprise Zoom meeting with Kansas Commissioner of Education Dr. Randy Watson, Larrah learned that she was selected to be a Kansas Horizon Award Teacher. Superintendent Exline reported that school nurses and health aides received COVID-19 vaccinations last Friday and that 364 USD 305 staff members took advantage of the free COVID-19 tests offered before winter break. Of those 364 tests, only five tested positive. She thanked Salina Regional Health Center and ComCare for their support to make the free tests available to USD 305 staff. Superintendent Exline announced that January is Board Recognition month and thanked USD 305 Board members for their leadership and expressed her appreciation for all they do for students and families of Salina.
