Reorganization of the Board for the 2020-2021 School Year

Election of Board President

Gabe Grant was elected to serve as president until new officer elections are held at the first regular meeting in July, 2021.

Election of Board Vice-President

Jim Fletcher was elected to serve as vice-president until new officer elections are held at the first regular meeting in July, 2021.

Clerks and Treasurer Appointments

The board of education approved the following appointments:

Annual Resolutions

The board of education approved the following annual resolutions:

  • To establish regular meetings.
  • To waive the annual requirements for generally accepted accounting principles and fixed asset accounting.
  • To rescind policy statements found in minutes.
  • To adopt 1116 school hours.
  • To establish home rule.

 

20-21 Official Depositories

The board of education approved official depositories for district funds: American State Bank & Trust, Bank of Tescott, Bank VI, Bennington State Bank, Capitol Federal, Central National Bank, Exchange Bank, First Bank Kansas, Solomon State Bank, Sunflower Bank and UMB Bank.

 

20-21 Official Newspaper

“The Salina Journal” was designated as the district’s newspaper of record.

Gift from Salina Baseball Enterprises

The board of education approved the gift from Salina Baseball Enterprises in the amount of $600,000 to assist USD 305 in the renovation of the softball fields located at South High School.

 

20-21 Mileage Allowance

The board of education set 57.5 cents per mile as the 2020-2021 mileage allowance.

 

20-21 Petty Cash Fund

The board of education authorized petty cash funds for Central High School, South High School, Heartland Early Education and the District Office at $1,500 per fund. Lisa Peters, executive director of business, was appointed employee to administer petty cash funds.

 

20-21 Copy Fees

The board of education approved a fee of 10 cents per copy of records for the 2020-2021 school year.

 

HVAC Repair with Trane

The board of education authorized an open purchase order to Trane in the amount of $30,000 to be used to debit ongoing FY21 repair charges.

 

HVAC Technical Support with Building Controls Services (BCS)

The board of education authorized an open purchase order to Building Controls and Services in the amount of $60,000 to be used to debit ongoing FY21 repair charges.

 

Excess School Equipment and Supplies

The board of education approved the liquidation of excess school equipment and supplies.

The board of education approved school facilities use fees for the 2020-2021 school year.

The board of education approved the 2020-2021 salary and work conditions for certified staff, pending NEA-Salina ratification.

Reopening of Schools

Shanna Rector, executive director of educational programs, gave an update on the reopening of schools.

 

The board of education approved modifications to the high school schedule during the 2020-2021 school year that students continue to enroll in eight courses during the semester but attend only four classes each quarter.

 

The board of education approved adjustments to high school eligibility as a result of the modified schedule.

Superintendent’s Report

Linn Exline, superintendent of school, informed the board that USD 305 hosted the Kansas State Department of Education Budget Workshop and that Lisa Peters, executive director of business, is preparing the budget for presentation at the July 28 meeting. Superintendent Exline reported that the district office hosted a new superintendent workshop for 50 new Kansas superintendents. She met with a group of parents to collect input on reopening plans as a result of COVID-19. She reported that she will discuss plans on KINA Saturday morning, July 18, at 9:30 a.m. and on a Facebook Live event that is planned for Wednesday, July 15 at 12:15 p.m. The Facebook Live video will remain on the USD305 Facebook timeline for 24 hours after the event after which it will be deleted so that it is not outdated. Superintendent Exline is conducting a book study about White Fragility, in which staff are learning from each other and how to fight systemic racism. She thanked board members Ann Zimmerman and Jim Fletcher and executive directors Lisa Peters (business) and Eryn Wright (human resources/legal services), for their work on negotiations which resulted in a good outcome.
