Salina USD 305 is centered in the heart of the nation, and our commitment to challenging each student to his/her greatest potential and to addressing individual needs are at the heart of the school district.

The mission of the Salina Public Schools is to be the best place to learn and work by embracing challenges, creating belonging, fostering pride and inspiring hope.

Completion of this mission is a responsibility of the student, family, community, teachers, and staff in a cooperative partnership.

The staff and board of education of Salina USD 305 are dedicated to on-going improvement of our academic program and to the success of every child enrolled in Salina USD 305!

Salina Public Schools is the twelfth largest district in Kansas and has an enrollment of approximately 6,953 students in its kindergarten through grade 12 program.

Eight elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools and one virtual school are currently in operation.The school district is the sponsoring agency for the following educational programs:

  • Central Kansas Cooperative in Education: CKCIE is a special education cooperative of 12 school districts providing special education support services to public schools.

  • Heartland Early Education: This multi-county program serves children birth through age five and their parents, partnering with other social service agencies to provide support and opportunities. Funding sources include Parents as Teachers, Early Head Start/Head Start, Kansas Preschool Pilot and Preschool-Aged At-Risk.

  • Salina Adult Education Center: This program provides adult basic education, English as a second language support, GED® preparation and testing as well as college skill building for people 16 years of age or older and out of school. SAEC operates a diploma completion program for adults to meet requirements and earn a Central or South High School diploma. An intensive employment course called Partners 4 Success was developed by SAEC and is run in collaboration with Salina area agencies and employers.

Academic Focus Academic achievement for all students is at the center of every decision made in Salina USD 305. This is the focus of the district's long-range strategic planning and the continuous school improvement process.

Award Winning Schools and Students The distinctions earned by schools, staff and students of Salina USD 305 are too numerous to list here! These include local, state and national awards and recognitions, such as Teachers of the Year, Horizon Awards for New Teachers, a national Blue Ribbon School, state and national fine arts and academic awards and state athletic championships...to name just a few!

Nurturing, Safe Environment Salina USD 305 supports each student’s physical and emotional growth through developmentally-appropriate curriculum and experiences. Our staff is committed to partnering with parents who area child’s first and most important teachers. Learning doesn't begin or end with the textbooks. Respect for others, respect for self, honesty, fairness and integrity – all are emphasized in daily life in Salina USD 305 schools. These personal characteristics are valued in Salina USD 305 just as they are in greater Salina Community.

Diversity Salina USD 305 reflects a richly diverse community, and that cultural heritage is highly valued. By learning tolerance and respect for others, our students are better prepared to live in a global community.

Access to Technology Technology is used to enhance achievement through productivity, problem solving, communication and decision making. All Salina High School students receive a Chromebook for each school year. The Chromebooks provide access to a vast array of online resources. They offer opportunities to collaborate, communicate, create and apply critical thinking skills to their learning.

A voice, data and video system connects every classroom in Salina USD 305 to an unlimited number of outside resources to support classroom learning. Both stationary and mobile computer labs are available for whole-class instruction. In addition to support from computer technicians and trainers, curriculum technologists provide one-on-one and group assistance for teachers to further integration of technology into the curriculum.

Salina voters' support for a $110 million bond in 2014 and access to state-of-the-art technology are just two examples of this community’s bold and visionary commitment to public education. The community expects our public schools to succeed and is willing to step in and do what it takes to make this happen. Our Strategic Plan was established by community members and educators working together.
