Retention Incentive 2023-2024

Salina Public Schools (SPS) most valuable resource is its staff. In light of this, employees could receive up to $1,500 retention incentive pay during school year 2023-2024. The vast majority of current staff have been working in the district since the pandemic began, nearly three years ago. That loyalty and commitment is invaluable, especially given the hiring challenges in the current marketplace.

In all categories below staff must be active employees as of November 15, 2023 in order to receive a one-time payment in December 2023. The final payment amount is subject to change based on funds available in the ESSER III allocation.

  • Any employee who received the full retention incentive (RI) payment in both 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 will receive up to a maximum of $1,500.
  • Any employee who received the full RI payment in 2022-2023 will receive up to a maximum of $750.
  • Any employee who received a partial RI payment in 2022-2023 will receive up to a maximum of $500.
Eligible staff who work less than 50% of the day will receive 50% of the payment. Staff who work 50% of the day or more will receive 100% of the payment. Temporary, seasonal or on-call staff are not eligible.

In addition, SPS is recognizing substitute workers. All certified and classified substitutes who work a total of 200 hours each per semester will receive a retention incentive payment of $250 at the end of that semester. To qualify:
  • hours must be worked,
  • any combination of classified, certified or nursing substitute hours may be used, and
  • hours will be calculated as of the last student contact day of each semester.
Payments will be made on the next regular substitute pay date in the month following the last student contact day of the semester.
