School Doors Stay Open and Legislators Have a Year to Factor Inflation Costs into School Funding

Today the Kansas Supreme Court ruled that the school funding plan does not met the adequacy requirement and they have given legislators another year to complete it. The extra year makes sure school doors stay open on July 1st and school will start in August according to schedule.

The court has directed legislators to factor inflation costs into their school finance plan that increases annual spending on Kansas public schools over the next five years. The court’s decision supports the commissioned legislative study that concluded Kansas schools are underfunded especially considering inflation. Again, the Court has ruled that more funding is required for the education of Kansas kids. We look forward to the legislature working quickly during the next legislative session to get this resolved for future generations of students.
