Renee Toms, Lakewood Middle School teacher, is a source of inspiration for her students. While pursuing her doctorate, she traveled to London with a team of educators to explore the connections between reading, writing and Place-Based Literacy. This experience deepened her passion for teaching and expanded her approach to literacy education. Renee began weaving global perspectives into her lessons. She guides her students to see the world through the lens of storytelling and language. They are empowered to connect their own experiences to their learning.
