Recognitions/Presentations

You Make A Difference

Staff members are nominated by colleagues to receive a You Make a Difference Award for their support of students and the mission of Salina Public Schools. Board of Education members surprise recipients during their workday with a lapel pin and a handwritten note.

 

Jacob Andres, Assistant Band Director

South High School and South Middle School

When two of Jacob’s band students had an accident on the way to an out-of-town rehearsal, he went to the site, helped them connect with parents and then drove them to the rehearsal. The parents were appreciative of his care and concern for their children and that he ensured they were still able to participate in the practice. Thank you, Jacob, for making a difference!

 

Autumn McCosh, Math Teacher

South High School

Autumn masterfully teaches math while incorporating social-emotional skills. She holds her students to high expectations and guides them with grace and kindness as they work to meet them. She is teaching math along with so much more that reaches beyond her classroom. Thank you, Autumn, for making a difference!

 

Shawn Loder, ESL Teacher

Coronado Elementary School

The number of students in Shawn’s English as a Second Language program has steadily increased this school year. She has made sure to do everything she can for her students with a generous smile and continued focus on their needs. Thank you, Shawn, for making a difference!

 

Daniaelle Strella, Fourth Grade Teacher

Schilling Elementary School

Danielle does an amazing job of building positive relationships with her fourth grade students. She has fostered a positive learning environment that helps support her students’ success. Thank you, Daniaelle, for making a difference!

 

Teachers of the Year

Kelsey Wood, a Cottonwood Elementary special education teacher, and Michael Hall, a Central High math teacher, were recognized by the board of education as the district’s 2025 Teachers of the Year.

 

Superintendent’s Excellence Awards

Scholar’s Bowl/Central High: Citlali Alarcon, Quinn Duxler, Nehemiah Gomendoza, Kegan Madison, John Rose, and Kolbe Shafer. Katrina Paradis and Josh Rubino are the activity sponsors.

 

KSHSAA State Piano Festival/Central High: Jasmine Kassem. Guillermo Rodriguez is the band director.

 

Boy’s Swimming and Diving/South and Central High: Carson Ablard, Logan Fairclough, Brock Dolton, Daxton Foos, Ben Sheppard, and Carson Crow. Dustin Burgardt is the swim coach.

 

Wrestling/South High: Brayden Fencl, Dammian Hightower, Trevor McMurray – Dusseau, Dajah Jenkins, and Lauren Veit. Kanean Wendell is the coach.

 

Wrestling/Central High: Hunter Hall, Jase Adam, Julian Glover, Grant Herman, Abram Owings, Cooper Reves, Ty Young, Brannon Rageth,Hailey James, Lydia Dong, Kodi Waite, and Cindric White. Lars Lueders is the coach.

 

Bowling/Central High: Rocelyn Show. Mike Kilgore and Kevin Miller are the coaches.

 

Bowling/South High: Campbell Peterson, Rita Boland, Rylee Lambeth, Odessa Miller, Saibre Montoy, Anreya Ordonez, Lakin Soden, and Callie Vargas.

Facility Use Agreement for Pestinger Family Stadium

The board approved the facility use agreement with the City of Salina for the use of Pestinger Family Stadium.

 

Assessment Review for Budget Consideration

The board approved the Assessment Review for Budget Considerations. 

 

Discussion Agenda

2024-2025 Athletic Handbook

Linn Exline, superintendent of schools, presented proposed changes to include Middle School Girls Wrestling and a revision to evaluations to the 2024-2024 Athletic Handbook. The board approved the changes.

 

Internal Transfers and Nonresident Enrollment

Shanna Rector, deputy superintendent, presented a proposal outlining how the USD 305 district will process nonresident transfers and transfer requests for the school year 2024-2025.

 

Education Services at St. Francis Ministries Salina West Campus

Shanna Rector presented an update on services provided at the St. Francis Ministries Salina West Campus. The board approved the recommendation.

 

School Board Reports

  • Ann Zimmerman, board member, presented a You Make a Difference award, attended the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting, listened to Superintendent Exline on KINA’s Saturday Morning radio show and attended two wellness webinars for the District Health Council.
  • Dana Kossow, board member, presented a You Make a Difference award.
  • Bonnie Schamberger, board member, attended the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting.
  • Paul Gebhardt, board member, attended a meeting with Superintendent Exline and Deputy Superintendent Rector, presented a You Make a Difference award and attended an Unmasking Stigma Gala.
  • Jim Fletcher, president, presented a You Make a Difference award, attended Salina Education Foundation meetings and Negotiations Training with Gabe Grant.

Superintendent’s Report

Linn Exline reported that Kindergarten Registration for Kindergarten Roundup is underway and being promoted widely. She attended the third session of LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) and noted the positive response from teachers for this training that will improve teaching students to read. Superintendent Exline met with fellow superintendents and legislators about KPERS and special education funding, student transfers and more.
