Superintendent’s Report

Linn Exline, superintendent of schools, met with Senator Moran and advocated for lessening federal testing requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic. She informed the board that the Kansas State High Schools Activities Association met today and revised the spectator policy, allowing for two tickets per participant’s family beginning December 10. Families will receive information about the changes. Superintendent Exline announced that the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) voted to allow districts to apply for waivers to use up to 20 hours of staff development time toward attendance requirements. She reported that the Kansas COVID Workgroup for Kids and KSDE recommended changes to school gating criteria, in support of the risks to PreK-grade 5 being out of school outweighing the risks of COVID. She added it is likely the local gating criteria will change in response, keeping elementary students in school even at the red level. Superintendent Exline thanked Shanna Rector, executive director of educational programs, Tiffany Cooper, Equity Council member, Tiffany Lowe, director of student support services and Ann Zimmerman, Equity Council member and board member, for representing USD 305 very well at the Equity Council presentation for the KASB annual conference. Superintendent Exline reported good progress on the softball and baseball fields as well as at the Dean Evans’ site.
